A COLLECTION OF ART BOOKS MADE FROM REUSE
Emily Holt
Finding scrap materials has always appealed to me. I can’t drive past a pile of discarded furniture without slowing down and skimming the heap of broken chairs and shelving for useful materials. Part of the appeal is simply the rush of finding something beautiful amongst the debris. Another part is seeing the possibilities in the scrap. Ideas generate from the shape or texture of the found material that I probably would not have thought of otherwise. Working with scrap materials makes sure that my art making process is full of surprises and spontaneity. To me, this is the most fun and thrilling way to work.
My plans for this show will be to use items I find on my walks with my dogs. We go to several different parks around town and there is always something that catches my eye on the ground. It could be a scrap of paper, a singular glove or a flashy leaf. In addition to the search for the items, I am also looking forward to the challenge of limiting my supplies to only things I find.
